Now that your budget is in check there may be some quick and simple things you can do to save money in the short-term.
- Switch to cheaper utilities. To see if you could save on your gas and electricity bills, by changing to a more competitive supplier.
- Do you know what kind of mobile phone package you’re on or if it matches your usage? Being on the wrong deal with the wrong mobile phone provider could cost you hundreds of euro each year. Ask your provider if your on the best deal for your usage. Check callcost.ie for the best deals on offer.
- A wise use of supermarket loyalty cards can cut costs with no effort.
- When you’re shopping for groceries have a list and stick to it.
- Shop around. If you split your shopping between your local shop, the main supermarket chains and German discounters such as Aldi and Lidl, you can save a lot of money on your weekly shop.
- Consider buying own- brand products. They are much cheaper and just as good as the well know branded products.
- Consider switching to generic drugs if there’s one available for your prescription. Check with your doctor. Generic drugs are much cheaper and you’ll save yourself a packet.
- See if companies offer discounted rates when you pay by Direct Debit.
- Lots of companies offer short-term bonuses or incentives - make sure you know when these run out so you can check you're getting the best deal.
- Make sure you know what statutory benefits you are entitled by logging onto welfare.ie
- Lots of money can be saved on insurance. Compare quotes for car, home and health insurance to make sure you're not paying too much.
- Are you paying too much tax? Could you get a tax refund? Check to see at revenue.ie
