Our offices will close at 5.00pm on Friday 23rd December . The Rathkeale and Adare  offices will reopen on Thursday 29th December and Croom will reopen on Friday 30th. The Board, management and staff would like to wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Art competition

Congratulations to all the winners of The Credit Union Art Competition "Ireland through my eyes". The award ceremony was held at Rathkeale House Hotel on Monday 5th December. The prizes were presented by Padraig Feehan, president of Rathkeale & District Credit Union. Special congratulations to Catherine Fitzgerald, a student at Colaiste Na Trocaire and Paul Whelan a student at Croom National School who both went on to win prizes at chapter level. Well done to all involved.

Running for Temple Street

Scoil Naomh Iosaf Come Out On Top In School Quiz

Pictured above with Rathkeale & District Credit Union's chairman Pat Geaney are the members of Scoil Naomh Iosaf's quiz team, which won first prize in the Credit Union's recent primary school quiz. . In a close second were Shountrade N.S. & Christ the Saviour Ballingarry were just back in third.

The quiz took place on Thursday the 12th of May in the Woodlands House Hotel. In all 32 teams took part and the standard of each was extremely high. The Credit Union would like to thank all the entrants, parents & teachers who helped to make the night such a success.

Croagh N.S. West Champs

Congratulations to the hurlers  from Croagh N.S. on their fantastic win in the West Limerick primary school final. The team won a great match against Shountrade N.S. in the final.

Adare 10 K Run

Above pictured from left to right are Seamus Cawley & Willie Costello of West Limerick Athletic Club. Once again, the Credit Union was very happy to sponsor the club's annual Adare 10 K run. The race took place in the sunshine on Sunday the 13th of March. With over 430 runners and 160 walkers the event was greatly attended and supported. The Credit Union would like to congratulate all in West Limerick AC and wish them continued success in the future.

Shountrade N.S. School Library

As a result of the initiative's great success, the school is now in the process of creating its own library. The Credit Union is delighted to support this project and as part of its continuing support of the local community has made a generous contribution to the costs of establishing the library for the school's pupils.

Credit Union Primary School Quiz

Pictured above with the Credit Union's youth officer, Mary Aherne, is the winning team from Our Lady's Abbey, Adare, which won Competition A of the ILCU quiz at a local level. Competition B was won by Scoil Naomh Iosaf, Adare. Second place in both competitions went to teams representing Shountrade N.S.

In all, 29 teams took part & the standard was extremely high. The Credit Union would like to thank all those who took part and also teachers and parents for making the night such a great success.

It's that time of year again and we're all looking forward to the first stage of the Irish League of Credit Unions primary school quiz. The event is taking place at 7:30 p.m. in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare on Monday the 7th of February. The quiz is always very popular with local primary schools students and over 20 teams have already registered.

Launch of The Annual Credit Union Poster Competition

Rathkeale & District Credit Union is delighted to launch the annual credit union poster competition. The competition is always very popular with young artists within the common bond and the standard of entrants is always excellent, no doubt this year will be no different.

Entrants are invited to draw or paint posters on the theme ‘Local. Trusted. Serving You’. There are two categories – General and Special – with the following age groups in each:

 The Special Category encourages participants with a physical or intellectual disability to submit entries in free expression without the restriction of the competition’s official theme (should they so wish).

Increased Demand for Credit Union Student Loans as Students Struggle to Finance 3rd Level Education

With the general economic deterioration, the five percent decrease in the student grant announced in last December’s budget and with students finding summer or part-time work particularly hard to come by, it has become more and more difficult for students to finance their third level education this year.

Research produced by DIT Office Campus Life* has highlighted that over a nine-month college year, the cost of living for a student living away from home is €7,470 and €3,789 for a student living at home. Rent can account for over a third of the cost of students who live away from home.

Rathkeale & District Credit Union leads the way in relation to student loan rates on offer. The credit union has a dedicated student loan rate of 6.1% APR. The loan is insured at no direct cost to the member and the repayment terms can be agreed to suit the member’s circumstances.  Depending on individual circumstances, a parent may be required to act as guarantor for the loan.

Bill Pay, Electronic Funds Transfer and E-Cheques

Members can now use the Credit Union's bill pay facility to pay utility bills over the counter (ESB, Sky, Eircom, Visa cards etc.). Member's can also transfer funds electronically to bank accounts anywhere in the Republic of Ireland.

Please allow two working days for the funds to be transferred.

Ballingarry/Granagh Youth Got Talent Charity Fundraising Day

Ballingarry/Granagh Youth Got Talent are holding a charity fundraiser in aid of Cystic Fibrosis TLC for CF Regional Hospital Limerick. The event will take place on Sunday the 13th of June in Condrons Bar, Ballingarry from 3 to 9 pm.

Entertainment on the day will be provided by bands and singer such as; Cuz-inc, Two of a kind, Awol, Take-this, The Wild Rover, Timmy & Ger and many more. There will also be a barbeque and all are welcome to come and support this worthy cause.

Rathkeale & District Credit Union's annual local primary school quiz took place on Friday the 14th of May in the Rathkeale House Hotel. The night was a great success with 35 teams taking part. The standard of each team was excellent and the eventual winners were Shountrade N.S. (pictured above). Second place went to Scoil Naomh Iosaf, Adare; Emmet Lawler, Declan McCarthy, Cathal Reynolds and Michael Mackey.

The Credit Union would like to thank all the teams, teachers, parents and volunteers who made the quiz such a success.

Croagh N.S. Awarded Green Flag

Rathkeale & District Credit Union would like to congratulate Croagh N.S. on receiving a Green Flag as part of the Green Schools initiative. The schools pupils and teachers worked very hard to achieve this honour, running many recycling drives and  are continuing to reduce, reuse & recycle.

The flag raising ceremony took part on the Friday the 14th of May in the school playground. The ceremony was greatly attended by pupils, both past and present, parents, teachers, dignitaries, musicians and  many more.

Rathkeale & District Union Donate To Adare Day Care Centre

Rathkeale & District Credit Union is delighted to have donated to the Adare Day Care Centre which is a branch of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland. The Day Care Centre is currently fundraising and will be taking part in the Alzheimers Society National Tea Day on Thursday the 6th of May from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Tea, cakes and confectionaries will be available for sale in the Adare Day Care Centre, Old Library, Adare, your support would be greatly appreciated.

Rathkeale & District credit Union will hold its annual local primary school quiz on Friday the 14th of May in the Rathkeale House Hotel at 7:30 pm.

Rathkeale & District Credit Union's Primary School Quiz

The quiz took place on Friday the 29th of January in The Rathkeale House Hotel with a total of twenty six four member teams taking part. The quiz has been running for many years & is always very popular with parents, teachers & students alike.

Two competitions took place; Competition A for those aged under 11 as at the 31/12/2009 and Competition B for those aged under 13 as at the 31/12/2009.
